Felt Travel Sewing Kit

You know the ones you get from hotels? Well, I’ve always wanted to create my own mini travel sewing kit that is not the throw-away type and would not look flimsy inside my bag.

I’ve finally made my little wish come true with this cute kit! It’s so easy to make that I’m now thinking of this as a great giveaway for your girlfriends or daughters. I actually made this a few months ago together with all the other felt projects (you can see them here and here) which I made during my felt-frenzy days. teehee.

I love how simple and yet functional the design is. :)

I found a lovely hand-painted bead form my stash of beads and used it together with a thin rope to close the sewing kit.

I have yet to fill up the thread area. teehee. I loosely sewed a couple of buttons on the left area and then attached various needles on the right.

Before I attached the thread area, I enclosed a thick cardboard in the middle of the thread holder so that it will stay firm and won’t look crumpled.

I actually forgot that I need to make zigzag cuts in the bottom part of the thread holder as well. I made a cut that was too close to the sewed area so I really couldn’t make those zigzag cuts anymore. No biggie, on my next sewing kit, I’ll make sure that it’s there. teehee.

All the holders — thread, button and needle holders were sewn on one side only so that it can be lifted up from the kit. This way, it won’t be too hard to attach anything to them. :)

You might be wondering how I tied the satin rope around the kit to close it so I prepared a short video to show you I close it. I initially wanted to use Velcro or a button but I thought this would be more different not to mention easier to make. Here’s how I tied it together:

From the looks of my simple travel sewing kit, it’s really easy to figure out how to make it. :P

However, drop me a line below on the comments section if you feel you need a how-to so that I can make one for you. :)

Card Drop #1 and Spontaneity

I finally got the chance to bring my cards and begin leaving traces of inspiration and love. :) I carry a bunch of cards in my wallet just in case there’s a place I want to leave some love behind.

Mr. Snuggles and I went to Pangasinan over the weekend and left two cards on the windows of the buses we were riding. Have I told you that I love bus rides? :)

Anyway, we left a card on our way to Pangasinan.

And another when we spontaneously decided to head to Baguio. We were supposed to go back to Manila that afternoon but all the buses that stopped were either going somewhere else or it was jam-packed with people going home and there were no free seats anymore. Anyway, we decided we’ll catch the midnight bus to Manila from Baguio and literally just chill (because Baguio is the coldest place in the Philippines lol) out there.

This card was the perfect one to drop because of our situation. Instead of feeling grumpy about not being able to go home as planned, we simply chose to be happy by enjoying ourselves in Baguio. I wish everyone would do the same — choose the happier option. We always have choices. :) Despite the almost unbearable cold (I know it’s not snow but for people who live in the tropics where the weather is mostly warm, it’s already winter lol) we went through because we didn’t bring jackets, we still stayed happy just by enjoying every moment of our mini, spontaneous vacation. :)

I love living a spontaneous life! How about you?

Apple-ogy (Apology) Cards

Sometimes the word “sorry” becomes so overused that I can’t help but look for other creative ways of saying it.

Finally, I found the perfect apology thanks to this drama I recently watched.

Not only is it a lighter way of saying sorry but it’s also quite funny. :)

Download FREEBIE: Apple-ogy (Apology) Cards

I don’t really want to admit this but I kind of enjoyed saying sorry with these cute cards. :)

The moment I made these, I knew I had to test them.

Here’s the little apologetic note I wrote to Mr. Snuggles. Teehee.

I knew exactly who my other apple-ogy card was for…

… My kitty Dhamma!

I always borrow her kittens to take snapshots of them. Teehee.

Dhamma was not “home” when I left the card and borrowed one of her kittens. And by Dhamma’s “home” I meant my closet. Yeah, I had to vacate my clothes because she gave birth in a sea of t-shirts. See those fat sleeping kittens in the background? They’re two weeks old and they look like they’re already a month old. They’re THAT fat. :)

One of her fat kitties and I had a good pictorial that afternoon. :)

I haven’t named him yet. Actually, I don’t want to give him a name because once I do that, I know I can put him up for adoption. And I want to share him with another human being so badly because he’s so irresistibly cute and affectionate to humans. :)

But he can be a little shy sometimes. Teehee.

There’s already a little 4-year old boy waiting for this little kitten to finish his weaning period. I’m happy there are still kids who love to play with animals more than their PlayStation. :)

Please accept my apple-ogy for this long post. :P Teehee.

Hibiscus Memory Game

So what’s my current addiction with Hibiscus about? Truth be told, I’m not addicted to it that much. It’s just that I’d like to make one lucky reader’s little wish come true. Teehee.

Yeah, I want to be like Santa today. :) I don’t mean to be as big as him though.

Pia, this is for you. I hope you can use this to create lots of good and fun memories with your loved ones.

Download FREEBIE: Hibiscus Memory Game

To create your own memory game, just print the file twice so you can match them all up according to color and flower. Cut the circles out and glue or decoupage them to circle materials such as wood, tin, metal or paper. Whatever you have is okay. :)

I’ll try to make my own memory game out of this one so I can show you how mine will turn out.

Have fun!

Pure Soap Bottle Onesie

My nephew Iko was baptized yesterday! I know he’ll grow into a happy and kind boy because his parents and godparents (one of them is my brother teehee) will always be there to guide him. Anyway, our organic personal care store, Spa Ingredients, will be launching a new product which is called Pure Soap. It can be used on almost anything that needs sudsing. It can be a shampoo, a liquid soap, dishwashing soap, etc. It’s organic and it’s super duper mild that I feel like it’s not doing its job when I try to use it as a liquid bath soap. Teehee. But it actually does — keeps me clean and scent-free which I love!

The timing was just perfect because our Pure Soap can be a great gift for my nephew who was going to be cleansed of his original sin and will be super duper “pure”. What better way to keep him utterly pure than to bathe him with an organic bath gel! :P

Since we’re still in the process of looking for a nice and simple bottle that can go with our new product Pure Soap, I had to make use of what we have on hand which is a 100ml glass vial. I wasn’t able to take a photo of the bottle with Pure Soap but to describe it, the liquid bath gel is clear and the bottle is a fat one with a small mouth. To make our simple and meaningful gift become a more interesting one, I designed something that will totally “suit” the baby-feel. :)

I designed a cute onesie for the bottle and stenciled my nephew’s name on the front. I was a bit lazy with the buttons that are supposed to hold the onesie together so I just took a safety pin and attached it to the bottom. I just love how it turned out!

My cousin can even use the bottle onesie as a souvenir and even use it to embellish Iko’s scrapbook (if he had any). :)

Let me know what you think! If I feel that you really liked the onesie, I can make a pattern for you guys :P

P.S.  Here are a couple of photos from the Christening :)

My cousin Daff with her husband JP and their two cute monkies — Iki (my goddaughter) and Iko (my brother Ino’s godson)

Iko’s sound asleep! So cute!

His Mommy steals a kiss. :P

And there he is… wide awake! Look at those big eyes!

Remember the tea bag favors we made last weekend? Well, here’s how they wrapped them up.

Oh, the yummy food! They stuffed us with very delicious Filipino and Western dishes.

And this is the very happy me, after I stole a delectable cupcake from the cupcake stand. Teehee. Oh, that’s Mr. Snuggles beside me. He got a cupcake too.

Have a great week guys!

Hibiscus And Thoughts of Summer

From where I live, it’s already the rainy season. We only have two seasons — summer and rain. Neat, huh? Living in the tropics definitely has its advantages when it comes to weather. We only need two sets of clothes, we don’t need to change tires and we get to enjoy the sun most of the year.

I know some of you are experiencing summer this month and I know how fun summer can be because of all the exciting summer activities you and your family can do. I remember last summer when our family would hit the pool almost every weekend and we’d all have these family gatherings where we’d eat and play all day. So with thoughts of summer running through my mind as I ate breakfast while watching the rain drizzling outside, I thought of how beautiful hibiscus flowers are and how they make me feel like it’s summer all over again.

Did I mention that I saw hibiscus flowers in Coron while we were “castaways”? Well, I saw a bunch of them and I remembered how my brother Ino and I used to make bubbles with the flowers. Instead of using laundry detergent or soap, we used Gumamela flowers (our local name for hibiscus).

If you’re one of those people who are living in a place where hibiscus flowers are abundant, did you make bubbles as well? I’d like to know :)

Hopefully these cheery hibiscus cupcake toppers will bring me some summer love once again. teehee

Download FREEBIE: Hibiscus Cupcake Toppers

You can even use these as stickers by printing them on sticker paper. To use them as cupcake toppers, just print them out on an 8.5×11 thick paper or card stock and cut out the circles. If you want to have toppers that have the same color on the front and back side, print two copies of the file, cut them out and glue two same colors back to back with a stick between them. :)

Sending you some summer love wherever you may be!

Weekend At My Aunt’s

I had a fabulous weekend! Despite the delay in posting this because we were swamped with work yesterday, I’m still excited to show you what we did over the weekend.

As you might have read from my previous post (do visit my previous post so you can download my new adorable paper doll!), we went to my Aunt’s house last Sunday to help my cousin Daffodil with their son Iko’s baptism giveaways. I’m a proud Tita because I designed the covers for his party favors and his invitations. Teehee.

Daff thought about giving tea because it cleanses the body of toxins just as a child is cleansed of his original sin during baptism. :) I don’t know how she comes up with these things LOL! I’ve never seen it that way. :P

It’s a good thing I was selling some tea bags over at my Etsy shop. I simply had to redesign the tea bag covers to match the baby blue and brown theme they wanted for Iko.

SHAMELESS PLUG: If you’d like your own customized tea bag covers as party favors, just email me at issa{dot}sarza{at}gmail{dot}com with your ideas for the party and other pertinent details. I can create a customized tea bag cover for weddings, birthdays, baptisms, baby showers, etc. These can be unique giveaways for your parties. Or you can even use these as invitations. I’ll try to make one so I can post it soon. For a small price, you can get a printable file of the customized covers which you can assemble yourself. :)

My nephew’s such a lucky boy to be born with creative elders like his mom and grandmom. I feel so thankful I had such creative heritage and didn’t get my Papa’s genes when it comes to drawing. Can you imagine that my old man cannot even draw a simple table or a stick figure?!  LOL. But what he lacked in art skills he augmented with people skills.

Anyway, would you guys like to see what machine we used to sew these cute tea bags?

My Aunt has a bunch of old sewing machines (one of them she lovingly gave to me teehee) at her home. She brought out three! And I know she has more stashed somewhere. Although we only used one machine, I just thought my Aunt was so funny that she had to bring out three machines so we can choose which one to use. I mean, who does that?! LOL!

Well, I just had to show you my favorite one:

Isn’t she a beauty?

We all had a great day at my Aunt’s. The whole house was filled with love, laughter and of course, food like our new family favorite that Daff made — Monte Cristo Sandwich:

Yummy! :)

Next time I’ll try to take photos of my Aunt’s ceramic plate collection. She has TONS. lol

Wishing you are all having an exciting week! I’m leaving you with my song for the day. Enjoy!

Paper Dolls

When I was a kid, I used to buy paper dolls from our neighbor sari-sari store. I would play with those dolls for hours and when I’d feel tired seeing the same set of clothes over and over again, I would whip out a blank sheet of paper and some crayons and design my own clothes for the dolls.

I’m sharing with all of you my new dolls. teehee.

These are my two favorite outfits from my new doll’s “designer” clothes. :P

I hope you’ll love them as much as I do because you can download them for free!

Download FREEBIE: Paper Doll

I recently gave this to a little girl :) You can also include this on your little girl’s party favors or give this as a simple gift to your niece.

Or you can play with these yourself! I don’t know about you but I still love my toys. :P

How’s your weekend going?

Mine’s fabulous! We’re going to my Aunt’s tomorrow and I get to see and play with my niece Iki and nephew Iko. :)

Have a lovely weekend!

Centering Ourselves In Coron

Have I told you that Mr. Snuggles and I are living our dream? :)

A year ago, we have dreamed of working remotely to make way for traveling. our hobbies and other more important things like family. And now, we’re really living it.

We used to do normal office hours and every time Monday comes, I can already feel the dark clouds looming overhead. I felt sad and gloomy. hehe

I remember Mr. Snuggles telling me on our flight back to Manila from Coron that what makes us a bit different from people who are working is that whenever we go home from a trip or when the weekend’s over, we don’t say “oh, back to reality” anymore. We go home with a light heart knowing we live a life that we see as one big vacation. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against normal office hours. It’s just that it’s not our thing anymore and we’re glad we made that leap of faith.

Although there really are days when I would feel like we’ve worked so much and we get too busy that we forget the really important things in life.

Anyway, we took advantage of our Coron trip to center ourselves once again. We didn’t really plan on an activity-filled trip because we felt like it would be a great opportunity to try to literally do nothing than meditate (and eat, of course!). The owner of the resort, Gigi, was so accommodating and hospitable. When we told her that we simply wanted to relax and unwind, she egged us to try their sister resort, Coron Castaway, for a night. I totally recommend her other resort, Gran Vista, as well.

The resort was situated in another island and we had to ride a bangka to get there.

This part of the island is filled with mangroves, sea grass and jellyfishes so we didn’t get to swim.

But we did get to spend a LOT of time on the dock where we stayed quiet. We got to listen to the wind while we centered ourselves once again. :)

Of course we took a couple of photos of us lounging on the dock.

We stayed in a big nipa hut. Nipa hut is our local cottage made with bamboo and anahaw leaves.

And because sea grass is abundant, crabs are also equally abundant! So yay for us because we had an all-you-can-eat crab fest during our stay.

The caretaker, Enok, caught those himself. He also served one big grilled fish. I forgot the name of the fish because all I remember was that it was too big for two people.

And since the beach was filled with jellyfishes, we asked Enok to make some Jellyfish Kinilaw for us the next day. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to taste it because we were leaving before lunch and he was busy depositing fresh water which he got from a nearby spring in the island. So there.

Poor jelly, we didn’t get to eat him. LOL.

That afternoon, when we got back to town, we hired a tricycle to take us to the foot of Mt. Tapyas. We climbed 747 steps to reach the top of the mountain where a gigantic cross stood. From there we could see the whole of Coron. Unlucky for us, heavy rain poured and we could not bring our camera so we just savored the moment up there. This photo was taken while we were on a boat during our island tour. I know we don’t have proof that we made the 747-step climb, but we really did. :P It was just so very tiring!

This is what we were supposed to take a photo of while we were at Mt. Tapyas — the Sleeping Giant. The people in Coron believe that he’s the island’s guardian.

After climbing Mt. Tapyas, we headed to Maquinit hot spring where all our muscle aches due to the climb were washed away. It’s a salt water hot spring. Weird, huh?

The following day, we took the Coron Island Loop tour with some new-found friends from the resort (which we forgot to take photos of! teehee)

You can call us bad travelers for not taking enough photos during the tour but we really opted to soak in the beauty of the place with our own eyes. We’re leaving the photos to real photographers who take the time to really capture the beauty of the island. As for us, we’re happy to see them in our own built-in lenses. :)

Anyway, we fed some pretty fishes with crackers in Siete Pecados, swam in Kayangan Lake and  Twin Lagoon, saw the creepy shipwreck where we fed more fishes in the deep and dark blue part of the sea (I was so scared knowing there were loads of dead Japanese troops beneath me that I could not stay in the water for more than ten minutes!) and swam again in Banul beach. We did all these while eating fresh crabs sauteed in garlic, grilled pork and fish, salad and tons of chips on the boat! We didn’t know where to focus anymore — food, the sea or the sight! We were also really lucky to have a great sunny weather during our trip. Everything was just perfect. :) Just like this pretty little beach we went to:

What a beauty, right?

We had a relaxing and rejuvenating experience in Coron.

Next time I want my Papa and my brother to be with us. We’ll visit Malcapuya beach next time. :)

Btw, I didn’t get to make anything this week but I’ll try to make a cute printable for you guys before the week ends. :)

Hope you are all having a lovely time wherever you may be!
