Anyway, I’d like to share a little about how I spent my birthday yesterday. We wanted to go to Tagaytay early in the morning for a birthday breakfast but I woke up late (6:30 am. Yes, in our family, that’s late already! LOL) so we all decided to celebrate somewhere near (like Alabang, haha) over lunch. After which Mr. Snuggles took me out on a simple date. teehee. Dinner and dessert, real simple. I practiced mindfulness the whole day. All in all, I loved how I celebrated my birthday this year because everything was so simple.
Anyway, after celebrating a mindful birthday, Mr. Snuggles and I went home and received an unwholesome news. One of our friends passed away yesterday. I don’t know if it was the effect of practicing mindfulness because I immediately felt the Universe reminding me of the concept of impermanence and the beautiful cycle that is birth and death. This was, for me, the best birthday present I have ever received. To feel and understand impermanence in such an intense way made me cherish every moment and see really see it as a gift. I’m sure we are all familiar with the famous line “live in the moment”. But I have observed that only a few people really practice this. Because everything is impermanent and constantly changing every millisecond, the only important time of our lives is now. The most important time of our lives is this moment. I see this beautiful reminder of ‘suchness’ or ‘momentariness’ through the experience of birth and death as the most lovely birthday present ever.
I just had to share this with all of you because you all deserve to know that clinging to the past and the future will only bring suffering. By practicing the art of NOW-ness, you will understand how lovely every moment is.
I hope you get to enjoy every moment as if it were your last.
