From where we live, Halloween is not something we normally celebrate and truth be told, I’m not one of those people who love horror movies or anything that has to do with ghosts, scary creatures and other horribly gory ideas so Halloween is not well-celebrated in our household. Short of saying, I’m not a fan of Halloween unless it involves fun finger food, candies, and bordering funny and scary images or costumes.
Yeah that’s right, I’m a sissy.
There was a time when one of my best friends, Jolie, and I went to see a horror movie. Of course I was coaxed to see it and I ended up not seeing it at all because I was looking away from the screen the whole time while trying to be busy eating 2 large orders of onion rings from Burger King. lol. Such a wuss. After that, I knew horror films were not for me. If a movie is bordering on suspense, gore and mystery, that movie is considered a horror film to me.
Mr. Snuggles and my brother loves having me watch scary films with them and most of the time I try to put myself to sleep 10-15 minutes into the movie so that I don’t get to see the scary scenes. Of course I have never succeeded at that and I always end up getting nightmares after seeing those kind of movies.
Do forgive me for my faint heart. Fear is something I’m not proud of and is something I am more than willing to deal with.
So this year, in my attempt to overcome my fear of horror films, Mr. Snuggles, my brother and I are going to watch as many horror films as we can on Halloween Night. I don’t know if I can withstand the torture (teehee) but I’ll try my best to live through it.
Anyway, we have shortlisted the movies we’ll be seeing on Halloween night. We’ve previewed their trailers on YouTube and by the looks of some of them, I’ll be having nightmares for a long time.
- The Innocents (1961)
- Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (2000)
- The Wicker Man (1973)
- Rosemary’s Baby (1968)
- Eraserhead (1977)
- Mothman Prophecies (2002)
- Janghwa, Hongryeon (A Tale of Two Sisters)’ (2003)
- The Changeling (1980)
- Invasion of the Body Snatchers
- Rec
- The Exorcist
- The Exorcism of Emily Rose
Although there’s one flick from the list that I think I might laugh my way through:
Do THEY ever return to possess the living? lol. Classic.
And to prep myself for Halloween, I’ve made some spooky Fortune Candies!
Well, I just used store-bought candies and wrapped the printed spooky fortunes I made around each candy.
Found cute tiny Halloween stickers in my sticker-filled pouch and used them to hold it together. Cute!
And by tiny stickers I mean real tiny. Like half a centimeter tiny.
I tried to be creatively scary with fortunes I made but I think it turned out pretty funny rather than scary. Ooops.
