I haven’t blogged for nearly a week. Aside from being slightly busy with a new project, I have finally taken some quiet time for myself to meditate and focus on the things I want to do in my life. People have called this stage in life many things — quarter life crisis, boredom, midlife crisis, the list goes on and on. But I’d rather call it the “Awakening”. Or you know what, I’d rather not label it because labeling it would limit its existence.
I would hate to admit it but a lot of us have been asleep for so long that we barely even know reality. We have believed for so long that what we have right now, what we are right now is all that there is to this existence. I am in no position to tell you what to believe in because this is a very special personal journey to one’s own self. Only you can realize what is true for you.
Right now, all I can share with you is an aid to this journey and a small news of my progress.
Meditating has always given me a sense of peace and with it I was able to understand many things and concepts of life. I was able to fuse together my desires and my purpose. I have found that Mandalas can aid us well in meditation and focus.
The word “Mandala” came from the Sanskrit language that means “circle”. Although inside the mandala there are many different shapes aside from the circle, there is a concentric structure that is inherent on all mandalas. Apart from aiding us in meditation, a Mandala serves as a tool on our spiritual journey because it symbolizes phsyic and cosmic order.
The design of the mandala is so visually appealing that it can absorb the mind and envelope the viewer in such a way that restless thoughts cease and the mind is lead into a higher state of awareness or consciousness. It’s just like letting the creative side of our mind run free while our analytical side takes a short nap. In this light, we can use the mandala as an aid to meditation or even a form of meditation for the purpose of gaining wisdom, primarily the sort that resides within each of us.
How to use the mandala:
1. First set an intention. Speak to your spirit and let it tell you what it needs to know.
2. Choose a mandala. In choosing, you can base it on the meaning of a particular mandala or you can draw one yourself. Drawing it is quite easy as you start with a circle and draw a symbol on the center. Any symbol that your spirit wishes is acceptable. Don’t hold back on the shapes you wish to put in. If you want to put a star or a heart or draw a frog or whatever, you may do so. Let your creative mind do the work and don’t analyze the shapes or colors you want to put in it. Don’t restrain your spirit if the colors don’t match or the shapes don’t go well together. Just let it flow freely and naturally.
3. With your chosen mandala, you can begin meditation by setting the intention clearly so we can fully comprehend our life journey or be shown guidance in a certain area we’re having trouble with.
4. Focus on the mandala and let your eyes drown in the beauty and intricacy of the design. Let your mind wander on the lovely colors and shapes inside. When you feel that your thoughts get a little restless (i.e., What time is it, what should I have for lunch, I should clean up soon, etc.), simply bring your focus back to the beauty of the mandala. Let the mandala absorb you. Drown in it, make sweet love with it and just feel yourself swimming in it.
5. As you fall into the mandala, you will start to feel lighter and intuitive thoughts may arise. Relax and just float with all the thoughts and feelings that come to you. Remember bring your focus back on the mandala should your mind become restless once again.
6. There are many different experiences for each viewer but a general result leaves the viewer feeling light, relaxed and will have a sense of clarity concerning an intention that was set before the meditation.
You may use the mandala I made for myself (I usually draw or hand paint my own but in this case, I made one that I can share with all of you) or you can get a printable template and color it yourself. This way you’ll have a more personal feel to your own mandala. Click the link below to begin download.
