Flour Sack Vest

I had a lot of scrap flour bags because I’ve been making a lot of these rice heat bags lately. Sitting in front of my sewing machine after making about 10 heat bags, I knew I was still hungry for more sewing. teehee.

As I’ve told you before, I am not a very good seamstress. My Mama was great at sewing and while I have tiny feelings of regret for being too lazy to learn from her when she was still with us, I feel lucky to have learned a few techniques and that I have her sisters (my lovely Aunts) who teach me every once in a while. So do excuse my poor sewing skills. teehee. I just needed some crafting therapy so I just created what I had in mind. I really didn’t have a pattern to base this from and I have absolutely no idea how I can make a tutorial out of this. :)

Oh yeah, that awkward smile. haha. My brother was rushing me and I couldn’t bring out a good smile. ha!

There’s my cousin Ryan, trying to fit into the picture. teehee. I love the printed brand on the flour sack. I accidentally cut the side where I made the sleeves and had to sew it back together. I was supposed to cut the other end. Oh well. :) The vest looks eco-friendly.

See how fun it is to wear something you made? :) I was loving it the whole time. I guess-measured everything — the small sleeves, the height and the width. Not bad for my first ever attempt to sew a top. Next time I’ll buy an awesome fabric, I promise. :) At least I got my measurements and the design right. I just forgot to create a pattern so that I can recreate. teehee. Oh well. Maybe next time.

Mr. Snuggles and I will be off to Taiwan in a few hours. I wish I can bring home some tea for all of you. :)

See you in a few days!

p.s. I have scheduled the affirmation posts so… I hope it works because we’ll be so busy eating and walking around Taipei that I simply cannot blog while we’re there. :)

smooches!

Felt Travel Sewing Kit

You know the ones you get from hotels? Well, I’ve always wanted to create my own mini travel sewing kit that is not the throw-away type and would not look flimsy inside my bag.

I’ve finally made my little wish come true with this cute kit! It’s so easy to make that I’m now thinking of this as a great giveaway for your girlfriends or daughters. I actually made this a few months ago together with all the other felt projects (you can see them here and here) which I made during my felt-frenzy days. teehee.

I love how simple and yet functional the design is. :)

I found a lovely hand-painted bead form my stash of beads and used it together with a thin rope to close the sewing kit.

I have yet to fill up the thread area. teehee. I loosely sewed a couple of buttons on the left area and then attached various needles on the right.

Before I attached the thread area, I enclosed a thick cardboard in the middle of the thread holder so that it will stay firm and won’t look crumpled.

I actually forgot that I need to make zigzag cuts in the bottom part of the thread holder as well. I made a cut that was too close to the sewed area so I really couldn’t make those zigzag cuts anymore. No biggie, on my next sewing kit, I’ll make sure that it’s there. teehee.

All the holders — thread, button and needle holders were sewn on one side only so that it can be lifted up from the kit. This way, it won’t be too hard to attach anything to them. :)

You might be wondering how I tied the satin rope around the kit to close it so I prepared a short video to show you I close it. I initially wanted to use Velcro or a button but I thought this would be more different not to mention easier to make. Here’s how I tied it together:

From the looks of my simple travel sewing kit, it’s really easy to figure out how to make it. :P

However, drop me a line below on the comments section if you feel you need a how-to so that I can make one for you. :)

Felt Monster Plush Toy

This project is part of the felt “installment” projects I promised I’d tell you about before we went on vacation to Cagayan De Oro. I made this for a very special little girl — Gabby. :)

Actually, I was never a fan of plush toys or stuffed toys. I have always seen them as useless toys unlike those that you can actually play with such as little pots and pans for the playhouse. I don’t want to sound mean but when I was a kid, I would always pray they won’t give me a stuffed animal as a gift. I would rather get a toy gun or a little boy’s toy than get a plushie. lol! I remember one Christmas, I fervently asked Santa to give me a white board just like what they have in offices. My Papa brought me and Ino, my brother, to his office one Saturday and I seriously fell in love with the white board.  You can just imagine how elated and giddy I was when I received my first ever white board, marker and eraser. So yeah, I’d rather have something so “adult” like the white board than a plush toy. hahaha!

Plush toys are something I would really do happily for someone else other than myself. :)

I’m not sure if Gabby was really pleased with him but I sure was happy with how eccentrically scary and adorable he looked:

And since I didn’t really know how to make a stuffed toy, I just guessed my way through. (Although I tried so hard (after finishing the plush toy) to make a pattern for all of you which you can download by clicking the download link above. :) ) **I have deleted the download link as I have been confronted by someone about this. I’m sure, just by looking at the plush toy I made, you will be able to “guess” your way and create the needed shapes for your own plush toy :) **

I didn’t even know where to get the stuffing! But then lucky me, I found something fluffy that’s lying around the house!

You know when you buy a watch or wallet or something fragile the store often gives you this box filled with something fluffy like the ones they use to make comforters or heavy and thick blankets all soft and fluffy? You know, the kind that they put inside quilts?

*hold on, lemme Google this one*

Okay, it’s Polyester Fiberfill or something like that. Teehee.

I saw a small jewelry or watch box (I really don’t know) lying around the house with that fluffy thing inside! The amount of fluffy thing is just enough to make a small plush toy so I knew I just had to try making it.

I especially liked the purple button eye of the monster and his two sharp teeth. :)

Have a wonderful week!
